Art at The Aquarium…

Owners of the Aquarium, Uli Kűhn and Rebecca Thompson exhibit Rebecca’s work in the Aquarium Restaurant .

Rebecca is a trained fine artist, living and working in Grenada for the last 17 years, having exhibited in London and Berlin. Her work has been sold to private collectors in Grenada, London, U.S., Germany, Switzerland and Tel Aviv.

Landscape works stretch (whilst still respecting) the classical canvas format into the third dimension through papier mache relief and incorporating actual physical debris from the scene. This is a comment on the illusory nature of figurative art and the physical reality connecting man and nature. Grenada is personified through static figures as sculpture set in an almost overpoweringly ripe and verdant tropical landscape.

In an age of ever increasing virtual rather than physical exploration of our surroundings, there is a modern alienation of sense of self. A reconnection with our natural surroundings; cultivation of earth, nurturing, growth, reconnects ones physical self to a life-force and therefore creates a sense of spiritual well-being. In my work the physical craft of sculpting shape and form is the backbone of reality preceding the illusion of realism.

The artists’ interest in interior design and landscaping is given full reign at Maca Bana where more of her work resides and she also gives private art lessons specializing in field trips to more remote spots in the Grenadian countryside.
